“[The show] opens with a monologue performance by Brooklyn-based performer Jake Dibeler. He assumes the roles of various vapid-yet-educated, melancholic, and emotionally wounded characters. They speak of sex and love with the sadness of Karen Carpenter and playful artifice of Lana Del Rey. These characters are aware of cultural context but also regard facts carelessly; one character seems to envy how Sylvia Plath died from leaping off the tallest building in Manhattan. The emotions are true, while the grip on reality is tenuous at best.”

"Jake Dibeler’s performances are a self-reflexive regurgitation of pop culture, queer body politics and death fantasies, an uneasy interplay between humor and horror. His works are scenes of self-portraiture enacted by several characters - all representing facets of the artist - via diaristic spoken word musings, pop songs, prosthetics, props and blood. a Decapitation culminates in the most glorious -and public- of ritual endings: a beheading."

"While fitting with the style of past performances by Dibeler — a two-person show employing simple props and stage-dressing to punctuate spoken word and choreographed movement — this one-night performance will be the first where Dibeler forgoes performing in the show himself, assuming the role of writer and director. Written in the manner of a Eulogy, the audience bears witness to a memorial service for Dibeler, where Macy Rodman and Billy Fortini guide us through the final passage from this earthly realm to the great beyond. "Dibeler's performances are hilarious and upsetting. Splintered pop songs and spoken word are woven into choreographed movement and improvised actions. Nudity, blood, object play and pop culture appropriation combine to describe Dibeler's place in society. Dibeler performs his lust, fear, regret, depression and joy and has the power to draw it out of his audience. It is clear that Dibeler is not presenting a character or performing a script. We are witness to a never-before-seen version of the artist's current physical and emotional state."

"The gallery space will be transformed for the performance, with black-and-white ceramic tiling and banal funeral décor evoking both the cold sterility of a men’s bathroom and the awkward somberness of a wake. Jake’s macabre and outlandish performance, incorporating drag, dance, and lip-syncing, will realize the dramatic potential of these ordinarily drab interior spaces – the bathroom becomes eroticized voyeuristic; the funeral wake becomes an unholy spectacle. All the while, the 'deceased' remains elusive – whether it is the artist, the art, or something else entirely is a question for the viewer’s interpretation."
